Restriction on modifying Item Posting Groups and Costing Method

Using Microsoft Dynamics BC365 standard, users can modify the costing method and posting groups on item cards, even if the items already have posted stock transactions. A functionality was developed that does not allow users to modify the Costing Method, General Product Posting Group, and Inventory Posting Group if the item has posted inventory transactions or if the item is selected on any inventory document.

Important

Users cannot change the following fields on an item card if the item already has posted inventory transactions or if the item is selected on document lines: * Costing Method; * Gen. Prod. Posting Gr.; * Inventory Posting Gr. * Item Category

1. Open an Item card by searching in the Tell me icon for Items.
2. Check the Inventory field to see if the item is in stock (Inventory > 0).
3. If the item is not in stock, check to see if it has posted inventory transactions (check the Item Ledger entries by clicking on value in the Inventory field).
4. Change the Costing Method – you will receive an error message notifying you that the Costing Method can not be changed because there are one or more ledger entries for the item.

   Note

   The same error message is received when trying to change the General Product Posting Group, the Inventory Posting Group, and the Item Category.
